Marketing to specifiers is not marketing to clients
A meaningful share of the buying decision in this industry is made by someone who never pays the fee.
Across interior design, architecture, fit-out and manufacturing, a meaningful share of the buying decision is made by someone who is not the person paying the fee. A specifier recommends a supplier, a consultant shortlists a contractor, an architect selects a manufacturer's product on a client's behalf.
Marketing built only for the paying client misses this audience entirely, and it is frequently the audience that controls the shortlist before the client sees any options at all.
Specifiers read differently to clients. A client responds to finished imagery and a clear sense of taste. A specifier responds to technical credibility, consistency of delivery, and material that can be handed to their own client without extra explanation. The same catalogue, site or pitch deck rarely serves both well without being built for both deliberately.
In practice this means specification sheets that stand alone as sales documents, case studies that state scope and delivery detail a client-facing case study would skip, and a website structured so a specifier can find and forward the relevant page without a phone call first.
A business that only markets to the client it hopes to win is leaving the person who actually shortlists it to work with whatever material happens to already exist.
